Trinity Jewellery

John Njuguna, Jewelry Maker

Trinity Jewellery is located in the Mathare Valley, one of the poorest areas on the outskirts of Nairobi. Living conditions here are harsh, with limited access to employment, education, or basic needs. Joseph Muchina, the director of Trinity grew up in this neighborhood. Together with the other founding members of Trinity, he was educated and trained by the National Christian Council of Kenya, and returned to share his business expertise with young people from his community.

In addition to their monthly income, the 7 men and 5 women jewelry makers who work at Trinity all participate in a profit- sharing plan and 10% of their earnings are set aside each month in a pension plan.

The beads used in the jewelry come from local family bead producers who make amber, wood, clay and brass beads for Trinity.  The jewelry is all hand-made using brass, beads, and seeds.
