Conserve employs 125 individuals from Delhi's most disadvantaged communities, using urban street style to better their lives and environment. Your purchase adds urban fashion style to your wardrobe, reduces your carbon footprint, and supports some of India's poorest citizens.
Born of a desire to reduce Delhi's mountain of rubbish and lift its poorest out of city slums, Conserve India began in 1998 as a fledgling recycling project. After much experimentation, the founders realized its biggest opportunity was its biggest challenge: the city's thousands of non-perishable plastic bags. Their idea to upcycle (rather than recycle) by washing, drying, and pressing the bags into sheets was a hit, and colorful plastic bags were turned into high fashion bags, belts, and jewelry. Today Conserve offers hand-crafted products using a variety of urban materials. The organization offers training to workers throughout the organization and spends profits to the support schools and welfare programs in the slums where many of its employees live.
