"VillageWorks is more than handcrafts. The essence is really building the lives of the villagers. Behind every piece of work you get the whole person and his family, more than what you see, more than the hands that made the product."

VillageWorks Collection is a project which was started by the Girls' Brigade of Singapore, a non-profit organization which works to improve the lives of girls and women in Southeast Asia. The organization benefits over 75 rural artisans in the Baray district of Cambodia, 2 hours from Phnom Penh. The name VillageWorks expresses their focus on handicrafts produced in small villages using indigenous materials and traditional crafts techniques.

The majority of the artisans who work with VillageWorks are women. The organization currently runs 2 training centers, where women from surrounding villages receive training in sewing, embroidery, and weaving. The centers provide employment for the women and help them realize their potential.

Earlier this year, Serrv offered a grant and loan to VillageWorks to enable them to expand their workshop facilities and provide training to 25 additional physically handicapped artisans. We can't wait to see the impact!
