Gifts of financial support make it possible for us to provide the additional behind-the-scenes training, product development, and grants to our artisan partners, extending their earning potential into the future. SERRV works actively to assist our partners to develop new products and find new wholesale customers. In a world where almost 3 billion people survive on $2 or less a day, our goal is to reduce poverty through fair trade.

Examples of SERRV's Recent Development Work

1) Hosted our second annual Design Camp training. For this intensive week-long product development training, SERRV invited three designers from partners in Nepal, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Through brainstorming sessions with staff in Madison, workshops with product design professionals in Chicago, inspirational retail store visits, and homestays, we increase our partners' understanding of the American market so they can create products that appeal more to our customers.

2) Held a product design workshop in Lima, Peru for six artisan partner organizations from South America. Volunteer Dana Morales, a designer from Colombia, led the workshop with SERRV staff. By sharing insights on US design trends, along with SERRV's customer profiles and merchandising approach, participants learned how to expand product lines based on strong selling products.

3) With support from SERRV, design Colvin English led two design workshops with the artisans of Comite Artisanal Haitien. The sessions were held at the CAH design center in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and with artisans in their local workshops. The training is part of a grant SERRV received to help CAH expand its design capacity and product range to support more Haitian artisans.
