About Peru
Located in western South America, Peru is a country of diverse landscape and beautiful cultural traditions. Quechua Indians made up nearly half of Peru's population. Though its economy has grown rapidly, Peru continues to face economic problems stemming from natural disasters, a struggle to develop nontraditional export industries, and limited agricultural areas. Traditional handicrafts—including weaving, ceramics, and metalworking—are inspired by both indigenous and Spanish cultures.
