    An advent calendar counts down the days to Christmas, with one door, drawer, or pocket for each day. Open one a day to find a small treat, note, or token. Most calendars start on December 1 and end on December 24. SERRV carries several types: chocolate calendars, handmade paper calendars with drawers, fabric pocket calendars, a 26-piece arpillera applique calendar from Peru, and an advent wreath for candles.

    Yes. SERRV's paper, fabric, and arpillera calendars are made to come out every year. You refill them yourself, so the contents can change as children grow, or you can use them for notes, small gifts, or a short daily reading.     The custom is usually traced to the legend of St. Nicholas, who was said to have dropped gold coins down a chimney, where they landed in stockings hung by the fire to dry. Stockings are now one of the most personal decorations in a home, and families often keep the same ones for decades. SERRV's stockings are hand-knit wool from Nepal, upcycled sari patchwork and embellished patchwork from India, and appliqued arpillera from Peru.
