Canaan Fair Trade
Canaan Fair Trade works with a network of agricultural cooperatives to create fair trade olive oils and specialty foods from Palestine. Your purchase guarantees a fair living wage, safe and healthy working conditions, and dignified employment to small-scale farmers and producers.
In 2004, farmer and Canaan founder Abufarha Nasser identified olive trees as a way of giving Palestinian farmers a sustainable living—and a voice. He developed a network of producers, organizations, and markets interested in sustaining Palestinian livelihoods through agriculture. Success encouraged farmers to invest more in their stewardship of the land, further strengthening their bond with its sustainability. Today Canaan works with 52 olive oil producing cooperatives, with 2,000 farmer members across the West Bank. The company reinvests part of it profits back into the producers' local communities, and provides material support and education on fair trade practices, farming, and quality-assurance procedures. Canaan's olives and olive oil are highly prized and valued not only for their exceptional flavor but for the wide impact they have on producers' communities through fair trade practices.
